CATARACT LENS IMPLANT

Cataract Lens Implants – For Your Specific Requirements

Cataract lens implants are the key to restoring satisfactory vision following the removal of your cataracts. The implant is placed where your natural lens lies at the end of your cataract surgery, and stays there permanently.

There is no need for you to do anything once the implant is in place, you will never need to remove or re-insert the lens implant, as this type of lens is not like a contact lens.

Following the implant and Cataract Surgery your vision should be good and you will see further improvements over the next few days. You may still have to wear glasses after the lens implant has been put in place however this depends on your particular needs and can be discussed at your consultation

The strength of your lens implant will be assessed following some tests and then the correct type of lens implant can be selected to suit your particular needs and requirements. Lens implants are generally made of acrylic or silicone.

For the majority of patients a standard fixed focus “monofocal” lens implant is the best option. Most patients prefer good distance vision without glasses (or very low dependence on glasses) but expect to wear reading glasses for close work. The implant can also be targeted to give good focus for near without glasses but glasses would be required for distance vision.

New types of lenses called “multi-focal” lenses can offer even less dependence on glasses at all distances – for far and near. Mr Mahmood can discuss this type of lens if it is appropriate in your case.

Cataract complications resulting from a lens implant are relatively rare.

If left untreated cataracts can worsen and may eventually lead to severe sight impairment and even blindness. Fortunately, cataract operations are widely performed and can help to restore your sight to almost the same level it was before the onset of the problem.

Appointment times can be worked flexibly around your needs and may be accommodated on evenings and weekends.
You can also be seen at a private hospital close and convenient for you. info@eyeproblems.uk.com
